The little cat stared at the figure... it floated closer... It's large grin was terriffying. It spoke. 'What happened, my precious kitten?' The cat took a second to respond. 'N-nothing...' she stuttered. The fox, although he was smiling so largely, had a wooried look in his white eyes. 'Ok. You do not have to tell me. But it would be easier to help if I knew,' he said. The kitten decide to tell him some things, but not all of them. Just little things. The fox, floating around the cat, began mending cracks and holes as she talked. 'Well, good sir, what happened to you? How did you become a ghost?' the cat asked after a while. The fox was reluctant to tell her. He didn't like letting people know of his mistake. But he told her. He told her everything. "I was very hungry, you see,' the fox began, 'I had my only food stolen by other animals. I was stupid to let them...' he sighed sadly. 'I set a trap. I set it bigg enough for a bear. I waited in a tree, right above the trap.' The ghost foxes eyes were clouded with pain of the memories and he had stopped working. 'I was too stupid to realize the branch I sat on was to weak to support me... and I fell.' He stopped talking now. He had said too much. No one was supposed to know of his stupidity. But, he realized, I already love this cat, with all my heart. She has a right to know... He settled on a soft patch of long grass in front of the glass cat. 'Now you must tell me your story,' he insisted. The cat said everything. Nothing was kept in. At least, only a little was kept in. The fox had to go. He had to return to his trap everynight. 'Goodbye' he hugged her carefully so not to worsen and holes or cracks. He turned and left without a sound. 'See you soon, my dear kitten...' and he was gone. The glass cat looked down where the ghost had been laying. There was no impression in the grass. As if he were never there. But, for the first time in years, the glass cat felt...hopeful.
